History of Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht

The Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht has been focusing exclusively on neurorehabilitation since 1989. Many years of experience, the integration of state-of-the-art therapy methods and participation in numerous research projects have gained us national and international recognition.

2025: New look under the VITREA brand

As part of the Swiss Rehabilitation Group, we now operate under the VITREA brand together with around 70 facilities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
At the Zihlschlacht Rehabilitation Clinic, we combine our long tradition with leading expertise in neurorehabilitation. For over 130 years, we have been supporting people after brain injuries, strokes or other neurological disorders with medical excellence, personal attention and state-of-the-art therapy concepts.
As part of the VITREA Group, we are actively shaping the future of rehabilitation through interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative strength and the courage to break new ground. In Zihlschlacht, we live up to this claim – so that people can regain their independence and return to the things they love.

 

Private ward Oasis 2020

In 2020, the Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht received its newest building with a cozy hotel ambience, the private ward Oasis. It has since been bringing together the latest robotic assisted technologies and decades of expertise in neurorehabilitation.

The Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht 2012

 

In 2012, the clinic was taken over and modernised by VAMED Schweiz. Since then, the Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht has been managed by VAMED Schweiz and gained an excellent national and international reputation as a pioneer in the field of neurological rehabilitation.

Private clinic Sonnenrain 1989

In 1989, Prof. E. Ketz & Dr. J. Blanco took over the Psychiatric Private Clinic Friedheim and transformed it into the Private Clinic Sonnenrain, which started to specialise in neurorehabilitation. This was the birth of the Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht. In the following years the clinic received a new building and continued operating under the name of Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht.

Villa im Winkel 1950

That year saw the inauguration of the “Villa im Winkel”, which is now considered the main landmark of the Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht. The addition of the new building meant that the Friedheim Psychiatric Clinic expanded again.

Friedheim 1931

Son of Professor Dr. Fernand Krayenbühl, Dr. Pierre Krayenbühl took over the management and, together with Dr. T. Pritzker, founded the Friedheim Private Psychiatric Clinic, which was already exceptionally large for its time with its 60-70 beds.

The history of the Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht began in the 19th century with the establishment of a psychiatric clinic (“Institute for mental and nervous illnesses”), which was called Friedheim Sanatorium and directed by famous Professor Krayenbühl.
