A holistic therapy approach
The interdisciplinary treatment concept is the basis for the comprehensive and multi-layered range of therapies offered by Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht. Neurological rehabilitation as practiced at Rehaklinik Zihlschlacht is based on a 24-hour concept. Patients are treated, cared for and therapized around the clock. Comprehensive advice and guidance for relatives is an important factor in successful rehabilitation.
Cognitive therapies
Within the framework of neuropsychological therapy, so-called cognitive performances such as concentration, memory, logical thinking, etc. are examined in patients with neurological diseases. Therapeutic measures are taken to improve the performance impaired by the disease, thus enabling the best possible reintegration into everyday working and private life. In addition, an assessment of the performance capacity with any existing residual deficits in everyday life takes place.
In addition, the process of coming to terms with the illness is accompanied by counseling and psychotherapeutic measures in individual or group settings. Patients are supported in finding their way in their changed life situation and in developing strategies for dealing with the disease.
Neuropsychological therapy at the Zihlschlacht Rehabilitation Clinic includes the following measures:
- Neuropsychological diagnostics
Cognitive individual training
Cognitive group training
PC-supported attention training
Psychotherapeutic individual sessions
Psychotherapeutic group sessions
Relaxation groups
Counseling of relatives
Biofeedback
In the occupational therapy, an individual occupational history is summarizes and the patient's work or workplace situation is recorded. All measures are focused on needs support in the reintegration process.
The training program is adapted to the patient's needs. Resources and deficits are determined in the course of work trials lasting one to several hours. In order to achieve an optimal professional reintegration and to prevent coordination problems, the employer and, if necessary, costs of other institutions are included in the process.
The occupational therapy measures aim at starting a medically justifiable, graduated work training (if necessary still under full incapacity for work) as early as possible. The concretely agreed contents and working conditions are based on the patient's resources ascertained in tests and training.
Music therapy enables experiences on different levels.

In music therapy, non-verbal, emotional and verbal forms of dialogue complement each other. It is a psychotherapeutically oriented method Its basic effective factor is resonance. Music therapy is offered in individual and group therapies.
Orthoptics (orthos = straight, correct) is a branch of ophthalmology dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of visual disorders. It belongs to the field of strabismus and deals in particular with visual field defects, eye movement disorders and poor visual acuity.
Visual disorders are often consequences of brain injury. They make everyday life more difficult and are particularly stressful in combination with other impairments, such as gait disorders.
Double images, visual field defects and blurred vision impair both visual orientation and reading. For those affected and their social environment, these phenomena are often very disturbing. They therefore require careful diagnosis and treatment.
The neuroophthalmological department of the Rehabilitation Clinic Zihlschlacht offers comprehensive care and treatment by specialized orthoptists (ophthalmology specialists). If necessary, the clinic's consultant ophthalmologist is consulted.
The aim is to treat visual impairment by means of optical corrections, compensatory training or special aids in such a way that the everyday life of the affected person is made easier.
Speech therapy deals with the diagnosis and therapy of neurologically caused speech, language, voice, chewing and swallowing disorders and facial paralysis. These symptoms can affect people's ability to communicate, as well as their quality of life and participation in social life.
Specifically, our services include:
- Individual and group therapies
- Diagnostics of speech and language according to the status quo of standardized test procedures
- Clinical and apparatus diagnostics of swallowing (FEES)

- Treatment of patients with tracheal cannulae
- Involvement of relatives in the context of individual counseling and group discussions
